At WWE Battleground, “Total Divas” reality may well slap Divas Champion AJ Lee in the face as she squares off against Brie Bella for the butterfly-emblazoned title.
Since her scathing condemnation of the E! hit reality show’s cast on the Aug. 26 edition of Monday Night Raw, AJ has had an understandably tumultuous relationship with the first ladies of WWE. Time after time, however, she has proved that, as sharp as her words are, her skills between the ropes are sharper.
Walking into what appeared to be a no-win situation at Night of Champions, AJ overcame the odds, successfully navigating a Fatal 4-Way Match against Natalya, Brie Bella and Naomi to leave Detroit with the championship gold. But AJ’s fortunes took a turn for the worse when Brie put her down for the three-count in a 10-Diva Tag Team Match on the Sept. 23 Raw, giving the former Divas titleholder another chance to claim her place atop the division.
With the full attention of Brie Bella — who is no doubt eager to prove that she’s more than a “cheap, interchangeable, expendable, useless woman,” to quote the champion — focused solely on her, will the mercurial AJ Lee be able to back up her brazen words? Or will WWE’s black widow find herself trapped in a web of defeat as Brie begins her second reign as queen of the mountain?
