There is talk backstage that we may see the Intercontinental and United
States tile merge. This was originally teased in article written by
WWE.com where they sat down with the respective champions about the
concept of unifying the titles, and recently was teased on Smackdown via
commentary when Michael Cole asked U.S. Champion Dean Ambrose about the
subject.
The unification match (if it happens) is being talked about taking place at the Elimination Chamber PPV in February. Ideally in my opinion, the Intercontinental title should stick around because it is a WWE original unlike the United States championship which came over to WWE with the purchase of WCW.
