The Prime Time Players vs. The Usos vs. Tons of Funk vs. The Real Americans vs. 3MB (Tag Team Turmoil No. 1 Contender’s Match)
The Shield fancy themselves as the “Hounds of Justice,” but every top dog will always have its challengers. In this case, there just happen to be 10 of them. But for the ravenous denizens of WWE’s tag team division, there is only one path to challenging Seth Rollins & Roman Reigns at Night of Champions: They’ll have to survive the Night of Champions Kickoff, and with it, Tag Team Turmoil.
A unique match stipulation where the five teams compete gauntlet-style to determine survival of the fittest, the bout will pit two teams in the ring until one is eliminated, at which point a new tandem will enter the scrum and face off against the survivors of the previous matchup. Last men standing get their opportunity at the twin titles.
Simple enough, rules-wise, but the path to the doorstep of championship glory is anything but. Tons of Funk and The Real Americans both boast some of WWE’s most powerful Superstars. The Usos, finally coming into their own as perennial title contenders, boast a wild, freewheeling style that has already nearly cost The Shield their titles. The Prime Time Players are on a formidable hot streak. And while 3MB might seem like the weak link of the group, they’ve hung tougher with their opponents than their win-loss record would suggest.
And then, the team that makes it out of the turmoil will have to deal with The Shield themselves. Already two of WWE’s most talented young Superstars, Rollins & Reigns have made a new name for themselves as the apparent enforcers of WWE COO Triple H as the one-year anniversary of their debut approaches. Any team that faces them at Night of Champions will be in a weakened state, and the margin for error will be small.
So who, exactly, is the biggest dog in the tag-team yard? Perhaps this bout of turmoil will provide a clear answer.
To watch the Tag Team Turmoil Match, tune into Night of Champions Kickoff, streaming live this Sunday at 7:30 pm/4:30 pm PT.
