Why You Can't Miss Smackdown | August 16, 2013

Can The Shield make RVD, Mark Henry and Big Show believe?

After Rob Van Dam outlasted Mark Henry in a grueling 20-Man Battle Royal on Raw to become United States Champion Dean Ambrose’s SummerSlam Kickoff No. 1 contender, The Shield emerged to interrupt a show of respect between RVD and The World’s Strongest Man. The unexpected return of Big Show, however, evened the odds and halted the “Hounds of Justice” in their tracks.
Tonight on SmackDown, the black-clad trio will get a chance to right that “injustice” in a Six-Man Tag Team Match, which also marks The World’s Largest Athlete’s in-ring return to action. Will the all-star squad of RVD, Henry and Big Show be a big enough threat to beat The Shield? Or, is there a series of Triple Powerbombs in their immediate future?

Will the “Beard” best the Barrage?

An extremely quick three-count by special guest referee Brad Maddox led to Daniel Bryan’s downfall against Wade Barrett on Monday. Tonight, with a No Disqualification stipulation in place, Bryan gets another crack at the British brawler.
With the biggest match of his career just two days away, everyone’s favorite bearded Superstar will either take sweet retribution and even more momentum heading into his WWE Championship Match against John Cena or walk into SummerSlam with back-to-back losses to The Barrett Barrage.

Could Paul Heyman finally be at a loss for words?

The Best in the World certainly looked like a beast on Monday’s Raw. Less than a week before his SummerSlam battle with Brock Lesnar, CM Punk turned the tables on The Beast Incarnate and Paul Heyman with a sneak attack of his own, battering his pay-per-view opponent with a camera, chasing Heyman away and finishing Intercontinental Champion Curtis Axel with a vicious GTS.
When Heyman journeys to SmackDown tonight, what will — or can — he say about Punk’s actions? With only 48 hours to go until Lesnar and Punk lock horns in the hugely anticipated “Best vs. Beast” showdown, is it possible that the fast-talking New Yorker could actually be tongue-tied?

How will Bray Wyatt stoke the flames?

When he makes his in-ring debut Sunday at SummerSlam, the menacing Bray Wyatt will be encircled in a Ring of Fire for his match against Kane. Scheduled to speak tonight on SmackDown, the enigmatic Superstar will surely look to bring the heat early with another scorching sermon.
With Wyatt and his creepy followers Luke Harper and Erick Rowan set to kick off the best show on Friday night, will The Devil’s Favorite Demon be on hand to make a statement of his own? Or, will Kane simply follow the buzzards into the flames?

Has Ryback earned a last-minute SummerSlam Match?

Although he is not currently in the World Title picture, the powerhouse known as Ryback has lost none of his intensity or brutality. The short-fused Superstar decimated multiple opponents in the 20-Man Battle Royal on Raw Monday, perhaps taking out his frustration that he is not challenging for the WWE or World Heavyweight Titles Sunday at SummerSlam. And to add insult to injury, he isn’t on the summer classic card at all.
With multiple recent showings of both his strength and savagery, is the “Human Wrecking Ball” a potential late invitee to The Biggest Party of the Summer? Tonight’s SmackDown, just 48 hours from SummerSlam, looks to be Ryback’s last chance.
