As many of you know that the original Sin Cara, whose real name is Luis Ignascio Urive Alvirde, no longer works for the WWE. He was employed at the WWE from March 2011 until October 2013. The gimmick now is being worn by Jorge Arias who was formerly known as Hunico in WWE.
Alvirde time with the WWE is widely considered a failure because has earn the reputation from fans as someone who botched many of his maneuvers during his matches. The WWE also at one point suspended Alvirde for 30 days for his first violation of its Wellness program. The man even went on record to say he didn’t like the English Language as he said this in at the Tercea Caida show:
“I don’t speak it. The truth is, I don’t like that language, I can speak Japanese to you all you want. Before I wrestled as Mistico, I wrestled in Japan for two years and I love that language and I keep studying it. I never studied English, I don’t like the English language. You shouldn’t need to communicate in the ring, the wrestling should do all the talking. The fans need to feel like everything isn’t planned ahead. Not knowing English didn’t scare me.
I wasn’t scared when Darren Young and his partner Titus O’Neil told me I didn’t know any English. During a match I slapped him and said, “I don’t need to know English, I am a wrestler not a clown! I may be an acrobat, but this is my job.” Rey was in my corner and he thought I kicked him, but when he saw me slap him more times he told me, “you wanted to destroy him didn’t you?”
The botching, suspension and the refusal to speak the English language all factored into his departure of the WWE.
Ever since Alvirde left the WWE and he has been claiming that he owns the Sin Cara gimmick. He cannot return to using the Mistico name due to the fact that CMLL now owns the name, and has given it to another wrestler. The WWE believes it owns the Sin Cara name/gimmick but Alvirde claims that to be untrue.
He now works for AAA, and appeared at their recent televised taping. Alvirde appeared as a shadowy figure but wasn’t shown to clearly be identifiable as Sin Cara. The reason he cannot appear as Sin Cara is because the WWE has threaten legal action against AAA and that obviously put holes into Alvire’s claims that he owns the gimmick as WWE potentially pursuing legal action says otherwise.
Alvirde expects to be able to use the gimmick by this coming May. Yet, I personally doubt that he will by May due to the Sin Cara character being a merchandise seller amongst kids in the WWE. Alvirde may have to create an entire new persona or take up an unused name, and mask to wrestle in AAA.
