This past Thursday, saw WWE NXT produced it’s first live event NXT Arrival, which aired live on the WWE Network. Despite technical issues, the show was a huge success and provided a great show. Airing at the same time was TNA Wrestling’s weekly Impact show on Spike TV.
This weeks show was taped from London during the recent TNA Impact tour in the United Kingdom and was headlined by Kurt Angle being inducted into the TNA Hall of Fame. The show featured the following matches with a main event with newly signed MVP against Bobby Roode.
BroMans vs Bad Influence vs The Wolves
Ethan Carter III vs Doug Williams
Samoa Joe vs Bad Bones
Madison Rayne & Velvet Sky vs Lei’D Tapa & Alpha Female
MVP vs Bobby Roode

Initial reports came out that TNA for the only third time in the company’s history that it failed to make the top 100 shows ranked in the adult demographic. Interestingly there were four shows on Spike TV that made it to the top 100 list on Thursday night which were the four episodes of Cops, including the lead-in Cops episode for Impact. Last week TNA had some major competition, however the only competition TNA would have faced would have been WWE’s NXT Arrival show, that was only available on the WWE Network and the usual NBA on TNT basketball game, which did 2.722 million viewers.
TNA shouldn’t be too worried about the rather small drop in ratings, it’s very unlikely that WWE’s NXT Arrival show had too much of an effect on the Impact rating. Only a small number of hardcore wrestling fans would have watched both shows. It is interesting to note now that WWE has the WWE Network, they are now in position to target TNA whenever they feel suit. The NXT live show would have been placed deliberately in the Impact time slot to directly compete. Whenever there is a large TNA show, WWE will likely place a heavily stacked showed to compete against them. Whether this will harm TNA in the longer run and or would the on-demand side of things will allow those fans of both shows to watch TNA over the network is yet to be seen.
